City of Bangor Annual Streamside Cleanup Scheduled for June 1st

Please join us for our annual Streamside Cleanup on Saturday, June 1st from 9am – noon. The group will meet at the City’s Parks & Recreation Center, located at 647 Main Street.

This annual event is an opportunity to volunteer and make a difference in our community by cleaning up litter in our local neighborhoods, parks, and roadways.  Past events have been very successful.  We are now asking for community help cleaning up the areas draining into Arctic Brook, Capehart Brook, Meadow Brook, and the Penjajawoc Stream.  We can also use help cleaning up roadside ditches surrounding Birch Stream, Sucker Brook, and Shaw Brook, Kenduskeag Stream, and the Penobscot River.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Come by yourself or bring a team. Gloves, bags, safety vests, water and t-shirts will be provided. The event is rain or shine, so please dress accordingly.

Maps of the stream coverage area will be provided to team leaders the day of the event. We ask that team leaders arrive no later than 8:30 am. This event is hosted by the City of Bangor and the Bangor Area Stormwater Group.

Bangor Area Storm Water Group Issues Request for Proposals

Please be advised that the Bangor Area Storm Water Group is soliciting proposals for a Stormwater Funding Pre-feasibility Study for Old Town, Orono, Veazie, Milford, Brewer and Hampden in the Bangor Maine area. The Contractor will compile all relevant data, provide analysis, lead workshop discussions and presentations, and produce a stormwater funding pre-feasibility report for six (6) of the BASWG communities. The goal of this effort is to provide cursory information to determine if it makes sense for one or more of the communities to move forward with a full sustainable funding feasibility study. In general BASWG will enter into an agreement with a Contractor who is skilled in conducting sustainable funding feasibility studies and familiar with stormwater infrastructure. More specifically, the Contractor will: Work with a planning committee throughout this process, Compile data supplied by the 6 communities, provide analysis and interpretation and provide the data in a format appropriate for both presentations and a written report, Lead/facilitate pre-feasibility study workshops with municipal leaders (minimum one per town/city) to identify and assess stormwater management funding needs, sustainable funding options, obstacles or barriers, important legal mechanisms, approximate fees, and current and future stormwater priorities, as well as other topics that may be deemed relevant, Develop a pre-feasibility study report, including findings, approximate fee and recommendations for next steps. The form of the report must be acceptable to BASWG.

A much more detailed request for proposals is available from the Contact Person and all interested individuals are strongly urged to obtain a copy of the full RFP. The Contact Person is Bob Osborne, Chairman, Bangor Area Storm Water Group, 106 Western Avenue, Hampden, ME 04444 and reachable by phone at 207-862-6527 or Email

Sealed proposals for furnishing the work described herein must be received by 4 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2013 local time at 106 Western Avenue, Hampden, ME 04444 for opening on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. Sealed proposals should contain 10 copies and be marked “Stormwater Funding Pre-feasibility Study”. Emailed proposals will not be accepted. BIDS RECEIVED AFTER THE ABOVE DATE AND TIME CAN NOT BE CONSIDERED. BASWG reserves the right to reject any and all proposals. The BASWG also reserves the right of partial acceptance of any proposal.

This project needs to be completed no later than December 2, 2013. Project is funded through an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) via a Clean Water Act (CWA) section 319 grant through the DEP.
